Sonic Signatures Symposium for PhD students and postdoctoral researchers 9th – 11th of April 2014.

INDUSTRY KEYNOTE

We are delighted to anounce that world-renowned engineer and producer Haydn Bendall will be joining us for the Sonic Signatures Symposium.

Haydn Bendall started his musical career at Orange Studios in Soho and then went on to work as a piano tuner for Steinway & Sons. This led to an opportunity at Abbey Road Studios where he worked for seventeen years, the last ten as chief engineer, and during this time was introduced to quite possibly the widest selection of music and productions that any studio in the world could offer. Some of the artists and composers Haydn worked with at Abbey Road include A-ha, Angelo Badalamenti, Bonnie Tyler, Camel, Cliff Richard, David Gilmour, Elton John, Everything But The Girl, Freddie Mercury, Gary Moore, Kate Bush, Neneh Cherry, Ozzy Osbourne, Pat Metheny, Paul McCartney, Pet Shop Boys, Ryuichi Sakamoto, Sting, Tina Turner and Yusef Islam.
In 1991 Haydn pursued a freelance career and has since worked with artists such as Josh Groban, Dido, Michael Bublé, Shakira, James Blunt, The Priests, Il Divo, Russell Watson and Andrea Bocelli. Haydn recently produced, engineered and mixed the second album for Alessandro and mixed the album ‘Dialogue’ for Miki Imai. Other recent projects include albums and videos for the Qatar Philharmonic Orchestra and sessions with Van Morrison, Jimmy Somerville, Mick Hucknall, Bobby Womack, PJ Proby and Georgie Fame.

INDUSTRY PANEL

We are further delighted to announce that Morten Büchert (producer / engineer) and Michael Linde (alias Beatchuggers / Mike Polo) will both be joining us for the panel discussions.

Chaired by Katia Isakoff members of the panel will be asked to explore how technologies of production, recording and musical instruments have shaped the sounds of their body of work. Through playback sessions, the notion of 'current', 'dated' and 'timelessness' in relation to the sound and sonic signatures of selected works, will be considered. This will be followed by a Q&A session.
